Could not have been prouder of the girls today, who played some really nice football, and deserved to get more out of the game than they did.
Marlow are a good side with some skilful players, and yes they scored 4 good goals in the first half - but to be fair to Laurel the goals came from individual efforts, and the teams otherwise looked evenly matched. Both keepers were kept busy and made some good saves, and it was mostly end to end stuff.
Lily ran her socks off for the whole half, and left us at half time for her Taekwondo exam (hope it went well Lily).
After re-grouping at half time, Laurel started to have a bigger impact on the game in the second half. The girls kept their shape really well, and moved the ball around with increasing confidence.
Ten minutes into the half, Marlow scored again with a stunning long range strike from their no. 33 (who was excellent all game) but Laurel didn't let their heads (or belief in themselves) drop. They defended as a solid unit, and Izzy made some terrific saves. I lost count of the number of last-ditch tackles Sophie made.
The last 10 minutes of the game saw Laurel pressing hard for what would have been a well deserved goal, but it just wasn't to be.
Full credit to Marlow for a well-earned win, and full credit to Laurel for going down fighting!!
