Caversham Swans 1 – 0 Laurel Park Starz

The Starz first game after the summer break saw them taking on Caversham Swans in a friendly at Highdown school. The girls, in a new formation started quickly using the wide areas to great effect throughout the game. Crosses from Rebekah, Chyah and Kezia all causing danger in the box and Chyah and Tia both going very close with good efforts towards goal, including a great free kick hit from Chyah which went just over. Caversham Swans then got a penalty for handball in the area, although this was fired over the goal. The only goal of the game came from a mix up at the back for the Starz which saw a loose pass slotted home by the Caversham Swans forward.

The Starz kept plugging away though and created chances through more crosses into the box and by trying some passes in behind to find the pacey front players. The defence was fantastic throughout the game and resisted the attacks from the opposition, with an exceptional slide tackle from Abbie after she recovered from a forward running through the defence. And even when they got past the defence, Kerry and Tamsin in goal were there to save any shots that came in.

The girls played fantastically well, with a goal the only thing that was missing with lots of positives to be taken from their first proper run out after the summer. The special mentions went to Tamsin and Sakeena for doing so well with their individual targets of 1v1 defending and Tia for her brilliant running taking opposition players on and almost scoring during the first half. Girlie of the game went to Chyah for her brilliant running in behind the defence and her supporting movements to help her team move up the pitch.
Forgetting the result the girls have had a fantastic start to the season and now we turn to the start of their first league season next week. C’mon the Starz!!
