New Team Managers
Fancy a challenge? - 21 January 2007

Laurel Park FC are always looking to welcome boys and girls from all age groups to play local, well organised football.

Experience tells us that the younger aged players being the Under 8's and 9's are always keen to join our club. It is very likely that new teams will be created for the 2007/8 season however the teams cannot run without Managers. It is a commitment but very rewarding.

If you fancy having a go and are not sure what to do then the first advice is that the club insures that the  FA and County rules are adhered to and the necessary due diligence is followed to the letter being adequate training, first aid, CRB checks and FA Coaching certification. You do not need to be a master of football to help.

If you fancy having a go then please contact the Club Secretary alternatively if you know a Manager then please speak to them directly.

Laurel Park At Oxford United

On a cold, sunny blue skied winter Saturday 9th Feb morning, a group of 60+, including 40+ LP boys and girls ranging from U7 to U17's travelled to Oxford for a Football Special day. Arriving at Oxford the day was well organised by Peter Rhodes-Brown - some may recall Rosie from his 80's Chelsea days. Three other clubs took part. LP Players were arranged in four groups for coaching, which should see benefit when next the teams play. Rosie took the U17's and complemented them afterwards for their behaviour and attitude. By this time the sun was warming up for a perfect spring-like day.

At the session end four LP players were selected to take a half-time penalty during the Blue Square Conference afternoon game. Then the short journey to the Kassam Stadium, guided tour of the back rooms including home dressing room, followed by a sausage/chips takeaway from Oxy's. Thereafter free time to spend in the Bowlplex before settling down to the match.

At half-time all LP players pitch lined up around the penalty area in front of the Home stand, all four penalties were well scored including John at U7 level! Oxford have had a desperate time, 0-0 or worse was feared - bookies were giving 6-1 on an 1-0 win at home! In the end in warm sunshine Histon missed two penalties and Oxford won 3-0, a perfect finish to the day. Then the trip back with that stunning vivid sunset, whilst strains of 'There's only one James Millar' - one of the penalty takers - echoed around the coach.

The boys and girls were a credit to the club during the whole day and I would like to thank them all and to all parents for their help. I can honestly say this was a day most will remember for a very long time.
